Paleocene section in the core (which spans ~10 Myr) and the thickness (>160 m) of the lower Eocene section (which spans ~ Myr) that outcrops above it in the Dababiya Quarry (see Aubry and Salem a, this volume). To document this contrast better we have conducted a survey of the literature on Maastrichtian through Lower Eocene sections ...
The Dababiya Quarry section: Lithostratigraphy, clay . The Global Standard Stratotypesection (GSSP) for the Paleocene/Eocene (P/E) boundary has been selected in the Dababiya Quarry, near Luxor, at the base of a lithostratigraphic unit where the base of the socalled Carbon Isotope Excursion (CIE) .
Although El Dababiya Quarry Member is represented at AlHasanah section, the P/E boundary is marked by the occurrence of a minor hiatus at the end of Paleocene. Moreover, at Al Thamad section, El Dababiya Quarry Member is partially represented. On the other hand, at Sudr AlHitan, Wadi Sudr and Abu Qada sections, El Dababiya Quarry Member is completely absent due to a major hiatus.

We investigated the PaleoceneEocene boundary GSSP (Dababiya quarry) near Luxor, Egypt, in two nearby (25m and 50m) sequences based on highresolution biostratigraphy, lithostratigrapy, mineralogy and geochemistry. Results confirm the many positive aspects of the Dababiya GSSP but also show potentially serious limiting factors: (1) the GSSP is loed in the deepest part of a ∼200 m wide ...
· The road goes past the plant, then along the edge of the quarry and further climbs up the hill. A small hollow opens from the pass, in which the drilling is installed. Its height is about a twentystory building. [.] In total, about 3,000 people worked on the expedition; they lived in the city in two houses. From the drilling rig, the grumbling of some mechanisms was heard around the clock ...
The Dababiya Quarry section in Upper Egypt (E in Figure 1 Figure 2) was chosen as the GSSP and formally ratified in 2003 (Gradstein et al. 2004). It is loed in an inactive quarry approximately 1 km east of the village of Dababiya on the east bank of the Nile River to the east of the Luxor–Aswan Road and 35 km south of Luxor. In this quarry, two different lithofacies are visible that characterise the Campanian Ignimbrite: an uppermost zeolitebearing yellow formation [NYT] and a grey formation without zeolites [10,15,16,17]. The dimensions of the quarry are 500 m × 300 m × 30 m. It is estimated that the zeolite content is ~50%. The specific raw material was marketed by IZ—Italiana Zeoliti of Pigneto (Modena ...

At Dababiya the NP9a/NP9b transition coincides compositions, we conclude that the lower part of the Dababiya GSSP with the PETM dissolution interval, which is followed by the first section (Bed1 and Part of Bed2) was deposited in a submarine appearance of Rhomboaster cuspis and R. bitrifida (sample 40), D. channel. This channel extended at least 25m to right of the GSSP and araneus and D ...

The Luxor meeting was devoted to reviewing the Dababiya section and correlative sections in the Upper Nile Valley, and to organizing the ballot that followed. In the ballot, the members of the WG voted unanimously in favor of placing the GSSP for the base of the Eocene Series in the DBH partial section, loed in the abandoned quarry of Dababiya, eastern side of the Upper Nile Valley, about ...
